NOWW Flash Fiction Contest

Challenge yourself with a little writing exercise, and you could win cash! 

The NOWW Flash Fiction Contest, usually held each fall, accepts short short story entries of 500 words max. The top three stories will earn cash prizes. What is Flash Fiction?

  2. Free entry.
  3. Prizes: 1st Place $75; 2nd Place $50; 3rd Place $25
  4. One submission per person.
  5. Once submitted, stories cannot be changed.
  6. NEW STORIES ONLY, please. Your submission must be:
    • Your own work
    • Unpublished
  7. Your story must be 500 words maximum, not including title. Stories that go over the word count max will be disqualified.​
  8. Submissions that include aspects of identity such as cultural, sexual, gender, physical ability, mental health, and more must be an authentic representation of your personal lived experience.
  9. Deadline: Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 11:59pm Eastern Time (no extensions)
  10. Do not add any identifying information such as name, email address, phone number to your story. Any submissions with identifying information in the story or in the story document (for example, at the top of the first page or in the footers) will be disqualified.
  11. Please use 12pt font.
  12. Stories can be uploaded in Word or PDF format.
  13. Submit your entry using the NOWW Google Form found here: https://forms.gle/94kHpsTgnsEqDM9J6
  14. Please test this link ahead of time to make sure it works for you. If you have trouble submitting, please contact Don at admin@nowwwriters.ca with “Flash Fiction Contest” in the subject line. Stories must be submitted by deadline or they will be disqualified.
  15. Two NOWW members will judge the contest.
